Global Warming

Global Warming

Introduction

Global warming refers to the phenomenon represented by the gradual increase of the temperature of the earth’s lower atmosphere as a result of the emission of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide since the industrial revolution. To illustrate, the atmosphere near the earth’s surface is warmed because of so called greenhouse effect. The visible shortwave light goes from the sun to the earth, passing through a blanket of thermal, or greenhouse, gases composed largely of water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and ozone. What has happened since the industrial revolution is that additional quantities of gases are produced and emitted to the air increasing the size of the thermal blanket.

In 2007 the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change forecasted that by 2100 the average temperatures of the global surface would increase 1.8 – 4.0 °C, based on a range of scenarios for greenhouse gas emissions, and stated that it was now 90 percent certain that most of the warming recognized over the previous half century might be attributed to greenhouse gas emissions produced by human activities (i.e., industrial processes and transportation).

Global warming is considered hazardous for the following reasons. The rise in the amount of greenhouse gases is trapping more heat and raising global temperatures. This is an indication of the extreme weather expected as a result of this dangerous phenomenon. In fact, many would even link the increasing number of hurricanes to global warming. When hurricanes attack, countries need months to rebuild the affected areas; let alone the high costs. Undoubtedly, more heat can cause serious health problems like asthma. With regard to the economy, it will be highly and directly affected. To exemplify, some countries depend on ice for tourism skiing activities. If these countries do not have snow as an effect of increasing heat their economy will be dead because the ski industry will be particularly affected. Coastal regions will also be affected by the formation of coral reefs. Given these perils of global warming, it comes as no surprise to have each and every country interested in eliminating it.

Causes of Global Warming

The climate system greatly varies through natural, internal processes and in response to certain variations in external forces from both natural and human causes. Such forcing factors include solar activity, volcanic emissions, variations in the greenhouse gases and the earth's track. The complete causes of the current warming are an active field of much researches, but the scientific consensus shows greenhouse gases as the key factor of global warming. The main natural greenhouse gases are : water steam, carbon dioxide, methane, and ozone.

Adding carbon dioxide (CO2) or methane (CH4) to Earth's atmosphere, with no other changes, will make the planet's surface warmer. Greenhouse gases generate a natural greenhouse result without which temperatures on Earth could be an expected 30 °C (54 °F) lower, so that Earth would be dilapidated.

One example of an significant feedback process is ice  feedback. The increasing of the CO2 in the earth's atmosphere will  lead to warming the Earth's surface and automatically leads to melting of ice near the poles. As the ice melts, land or open water takes its place. Both open water and land are on average less reflective than ice, and hence absorb more solar radiation. This will lead to more warming, which in turn causes more melting, and such a cycle continues.

Effects of Global Warming

Some influences on both the human life and the  natural environment   are already being recognized at least in part to global warming. Glacier retreat, ice shelf disruption such  as the Larsen Ice Shelf, sea level rise, variance in rainfall patterns, increased intensity and frequency of hurricanes and extreme weather events, are being recognized as being, at least in part, due to global warming.

Some predictable effects contain sea level rise of 110 to 770 mm by the year 2100, repercussions an agriculture, probable slowing of the Thermohaline circulation, decrease in the ozone layer, increased intensity and frequency of hurricanes and extreme weather events, lowering of ocean pH, and the extension of diseases such as malaria and dengue fever, and group extinction events.

Conclusion

Finally, it is very obvious that Global Warming has become lately a controversial issue which concerns all countries, due to the negative consequences that will be caused due to the increase of such a phenomenon. Thus, all countries have to cooperate and work together, otherwise, all will suffer from the harsh consequences of this observable fact.

Reflection

We learn in the first class about the citation and how to post it in the website (www.blogger.com) I also, it shows to all people and they can add their comment. The first thing we did was taking an article from a magazine in the library and I chose a Top Gear Magazine and made a copy and took the copy and added a citation and when I finished I put in my blogger site and showed to all people to make a comment from Bugatti & Porsche 911 .Next week, I will submit my blog about super cars in which we used the database of HCT library to retrieve the information about these cars. Then in the next class I will do the report submission of using computers in education.

In class we have done all the work.

In this class we learn how to make a blog and upload to the website.

Using Computer in Education

Using Computer in Education

Before we go into the details of the usage of computers in education, we have to highlight globalization and fast growing technology.

Nowadays, computers are used by scientists, engineers, professors, doctors, students and sales menetc. Computers are found everywhere – in places you will never think about. They become a fact and a reality that binds at the same time home life, work, education and general information.

Since computers are touching every fact in our life, computer literacy or knowledge has become obligatory, which may start from knowing the basics and theoretical information till we know programming languages and maintenance. Obviously, no one can work or live in such a globalized world and economy without the knowledge of computer or knowing how to use them.
The start of World War II produced a large need for computer capacity, especially in the military fieldi, in that period many new weapons were made for which trajectory tables and other essential data were needed. In the year 1942, John P. Eckert and his colleagues at the University of Pennsylvania decided to develop a high – speed electronic computer to do the required tasks. They develop a new machine which was known later as Electrical Numerical Integrator and Calculator Machine (ENIAC) (John, 2002). The size of this machine was 10 digits, and it could multiply two numbers at a rate of 300/second, by finding the values from a multiplication table in ENIAC memory (John, 2002). Comparing this with the previous generation machines it was 1000 times faster. The following are the main features of this machine:

  • Used 18 thousands vacuum tubes.
  • Used 1800 square feet space
  • Consumed about 180 thousand watts of power.
  • It had the one punched card for input and output, one multiplier, 1 divider, and 20 adders which served as quick-access read and write register storage.

Use of this Technology Today

Recently, computers became an essential, primary, vital, important and main part of our daily life, action, decision, and also an essential part of the education system. Thus, including computers as an element of the education process will be very successful and worthy. Nowadays, the networks of computers have a strong effect on the way in which persons or companies interact with each other, where all functions, applications, software, and hardware are linked to the technology of the computer. Usage of computers can make company transactions and operation more accurate, prompt, and civilized which can make and keep a suitable record of profit and loss.
Computer sage has become greatly needed by students in the current generation, as students nowadays can study their courses online, even though some people doubt the quality of education. In reality, it will be more convenient for students to get education from their own homes, where the student can meet other students and lecturers from different countries, different cultures, with wide and various knowledge, and can meet them at any time during the day, without going on a specific time to college where he/she has to sit and listen to one lecturer in a crowded class. This kind of education has been growing recently due to the wide usage of computers between students and working people, who are unable to attend classes due to work load, specialization needed, location of the university etc (Jeffrey, 2000)
Apparently, we are living in a world where technology is fast growing, and every day we are hearing about a new discovery. Computers are considered in most countries all over the world as a main piece in the house, which you can not ignore. Moreover, the skills to use computers have become necessary in the work field, since the greater part of jobs these days require the ability to handle effectively computers. Hence, for this purpose, and because the computer has imposed itself greatly into the life of companies; companies were obliged either to dismiss their old employees who were unable to adapt to this change or the company will try to arrange training for the employees to understand this technology. Because of the above mentioned facts, and because most old people have suffered from shortage of information about computers and have noticed its growing importance, they started to oblige their children to study and learn about computers. On the same level, all schools in most countries all over the world are equipped with computers for students, where students learn how to use basic programs, typing, using internet, drawing etc.  Moreover, some software in the computer makes it easy to students to practice or study mathematics without getting bored wish pencil and paper.

In addition, education has benefited greatly from computers and their facilities, especially with the way of communication between the lecturer and students, where students use their emails to send their assignments (better than calling each time on the teacher and disturbing him/her) and home work to their teachers. Also students can check his/her grades on the computer (school or university website). In the past, the teacher used to write the exam or assignments manually, which to a great extent was not organized, but with the presence of computers it has provided teachers and lecturers all mends of organizing their work sheets, security to their exams, promptness in correction and adding; in other words, computers facilitated so much of the work of the teacher. Hence, these computer skills which are being adopted by students while they are is studying prepares them for the real world or working world. (Jeffrey, 2000)

Finally, from the mentioned benefits of computers in the education field, we can clearly notice that the instructional use of computers can serve students of all levels and of all capacities and interest. I expect in the near future that the computer will replace normal student's textbooks and notebooks. I expect to have a PDA or laptop for each student. The students can read their lessons from the computer and they can write their notes or assignments directly to the computer. Moreover, I expect computers which can talk, computers which can listen to the students and get their instructions, computers which have the knowledge, and computers that aid learning (Diane, 2003)

Super Cars

Super Cars

Many people like the Porsche 911 Turbo
because it's too fast but all most people like the Bugatti Veyron because it is
faster than the Porsche 911 Turbo because the Bugatti gets from 0-60 in 2.5 secs
(mfr) and the engine is 8.0L / 1001-hp w16 but the Porsche 911 Turbo gets from
0-60 in 3.6 secs (mfr) and the engine is 3.6L / 480-hp flat-6.

The Price for the Bugatti Veyron is $
1.980.000 but the Porsche 911 Turbo is $ 137, 360 - 140, 780 The Bugatti Veyron
16.4 is Grand Sport but the Porsche 911 Turbo is Cabriolet. The tansmission for
the Bugatti Veyron is 7-speed twin-clutch auto but the Porsche 911 Turbo is
6-speed manual, 5-speed automatic.

In the Bugatti they have braking from 60-0
mph in 103 ft (mfr) but in the Porsche 911 Turbo didn’t have the braking information.
The wheelbase in the Bugatti Veyron is 106.7 in but Porsche 911 Turbo is 92.5
in and the curb weight is 3650-3750 lb (mfr) but the Bugatti Veyron is 4350 lb
(mfr).

The length and width and height for Porsche
911 Turbo is 175.2 and 72.9 and 51.2 in but the Bugatti Veyron is 175.7 and
78.7 and 47.4 in. The Porsche 911 Turbo for EPA city / HWY fuel econ is 15/23
mpg (est) but the Bugatti Veyron is 8/14 mpg and the (co.sub.2) emissions is
1.96 lb/mile but the Porsche 911 Turbo is 1.09 lb/mile (est) and the vehicle
layout is rear engine, AWD, 4-pass, 2-door convertible but the Bugatti Veyron
is drivetrain is mid-engine, AWD.

More over the Porsche 911 turbo has many
colors but the Bugatti Veyron has jest three colors only and this is the another
different thing between the Bugatti Veyron and the Porsche 911 Turbo.

In my opinion I think I'm going to prefer
the Porsche 911 Turbo more than the Veyron because the Bugatti Veyron is more
expensive than the Porsche 911 Turbo.

Mercedes-Benz CLS

Top Gear Magazine

The new generation of Mercedes Benz CLS is unbelievable.
Seats are so comfortable that it has also in the front massage
chairs.   Believe it or not the new CLS with its new features will
make you adore buying it.  There are several reasons for this and much
more to decide buying this car.  The design which is properly bespoke for
its quality and the most important reason is Merc’s remembered how to build
cars properly.

I't is a cool car in every sense and you cannot say it is
weak,  not even a tiny thing.  The
new engines are smooth and powerful.  Mercedes as always promises  cosmically fast cars.  CLS Mercedes is
known for its good looks with the new “icon” shape.  The new car
reconciles Mercedes' mission to marry a pointy snout with a curvy body and is
much better than the E-Class.

One of the new specifications is that of the digital display
of the speed is now in colors which make it classier.  Also, the frameless
doors are all aluminum.  There are seven speed automatic gears that can be
a little hesitant on kick down.

The numbers on Mercedes latest powerplants are so good they
look like typographic errors.  The CLS chassis is so accomplished that
even the heavies’ powertrain does not blunt its handling or
behavior.

Overall, it feels incredible to the drive new Mercedes CLS.

Errors in English Among Arabic Speakers

Bibliography
& Citation

Kharma and Hajjaj (1989) describe characteristics of
conditional usage in writing by learners whose first language is Arabic. The
Type 1 conditional (
If + present + future) was the next most common form
they encountered. They state that it generally does not pose a problem for Arab
learners (Kharma and Hajjaj, p.138). This correlates with my experience in the
UAE where I have found upper elementary and lower intermediate learners quickly
demonstrate an ability to conceptualize and use the Type 1 conditional.
